Who Was Robert Reed?

Many people remember Robert Reed as Mike Brady, the calm, steady father at the center of The Brady Bunch. But Reed’s life and career stretched far beyond that single role. Born in the Chicago area and raised in the Midwest, he studied drama at Northwestern University before training classically at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Reed built a respected stage and television career, starring in the acclaimed legal drama The Defenders, appearing in dozens of major TV series, and earning praise for his work as a character actor, teacher, and mentor. He was a thoughtful, serious performer who cared deeply about craft, storytelling, and the people he worked with. The Robert Reed Run honors the full legacy of a talented Illinois-born actor whose impact reached far beyond a single iconic sitcom.
